From the moment that I thought about doing this series of interviewing my IRL bookish friends, I had one person specifically in mind that I knew I absolutely had to interview.
There are only two people who can be held responsible for my initial venture into reading YA literature 3.5 years ago. She is one of them. (Adele is the other.) She understands why I love the books that I do. She understands the fact that my entire body clenches when it comes to discovering that a book is a part of a series. She understands my sense of humor, and is honestly one of the funniest people I know. She gets the reasons why I like or not-so-like a book. And although our reading tastes aren’t always similar, I trust her 100% if she thinks I’ll love a novel. She is the epitome of a voracious reader — she will read anything and everything across all genres, and is the #1 patron at the Library at Casa de Capillya.
And above all, she is one of my closest and dearest friends.
Lauren (and me)
The Witch of Blackbird Pond and Redeeming Love, and I do love those books…but then I read Jellicoe Road. I. LOVE. THAT. BOOK. It’s probably a good thing my latest baby was a girl, or I might have named her Jonah Griggs 😉
2) Type of books you like to read:
I just love to read, period. I like to mix it up and read a lot of different things, but my faves would have to be Dystopian fiction, historical fiction, and cookbooks. (I do not recommend reading cookbooks for recreation while pregnant. You will want to make everything you see and you will gain 18 gazillion pounds.)
3) Type of characters/stories you like to read about:
Don’t forget Books That Contain Jonah Griggs. 😉
4) The book you’re constantly peer pressuring your friends to read:
I’ll say the Chaos Walking series, because I have recommended those books to a few people, but really, Cap, I’m too busy succumbing to your peer pressure to exert any of my own. 😉
Lauren was the only reason why I asked for the Chaos Walking series for Christmas last year. She raved about it (and that awesome guy Todd), and like I said earlier — the girl simply KNOWS when I’m going to love a book. (Sadly I’m only 1/5th of the way into The Ask and The Answer, but that’s totally another story.)
5) Covers you love (or hate):
The cover I hate the most would be the one for Perfect Chemistry. I avoided that book for a very long time despite the good reviews I had read, because I could not find the nerve to look the teenage cashier or the not-a-teenager-but-still-much-younger-than-me librarian in the eye and say, “yes, I am going to read this book, and I am going to like it.” And I did. Like it.
The cover I love the most is the Australian cover of The Piper’s Son, ’cause it’s cool. 😉
I’m not a fan of the Perfect Chemistry cover either! GAG. Get a room, teenagers! Lauren also has an excellent taste in covers, as well as books, no?
Now, would someone please convince Lauren to get a Goodreads account? I’ve been hassling her for (what feels like) eons to get one. Her text messages and emails about books are simply too much information for my forgetful and feeble mind to keep up with!
I really hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know my IRL bookish friends as much as I did getting to share them. It’s been a fabulous last few months having them on the blog – I hope you have bookish friends in your life, too. They are hands down some of my favorite people!
